Role overview

The Texas A&M Sounding Rocketry Team is competing in IREC 2027 with a 30,000 ft apogee SRAD hybrid rocket. The Ground Support Equipment (GSE) subteam acts as the critical bridge between subteams, building the ground control hardware that safely interfaces with our propulsion systems. In this role, you will focus on integrating electrical GSE controls (solenoids, sensors, power, and telemetry interface) directly with the fluid hardware provided by the Propulsion subteam. You will be responsible for ensuring seamless fluid routing, pressure control, and automated/remote actuation during engine testing and remote pad operations.

What we are looking for

Note: The tasks assigned to this role serve as the primary focus area where a candidate can stand out most, but members will also contribute to other subteam and launch-operations tasks as needed. Preferred Skills: Fundamental understanding of fluid mechanics, piping, or valve systems Familiarity with basic electrical hardware (relays, solenoids, wiring, or sensor wiring) High attention to detail and a safety-first operational mindset ____________________________________ Additional Skills (helpful but not required): Experience with plumbing/piping systems, high-pressure fittings (e.g., Swagelok), or fluid schematics (P&IDs) Basic microcontrollers or DAQ software experience (Arduino, LabVIEW, Python, etc.) Hands-on experience troubleshooting electro-fluid or electro-mechanical assemblies

Project context

As a GSE Fluids & Integration member, you sit at the intersection of electrical control and propulsion hardware, enabling safe remote operations during hot-fire tests and launch sequences. You will work closely with both the Propulsion and Avionics subteam ensuring smooth engine operation during static engine test and cold flows as well as on the launch systems which will be used at IREC.
